Technology & Tradition Innovation & Integration

Training AI with Traditional Knowledge Systems

Develop AI models trained on traditional knowledge systems to preserve and propagate ancient crafts. These AI systems can analyze and replicate traditional designs, patterns, and techniques, making this knowledge accessible to new generations of artisans and designers.

Engaging with Historical Narratives

Delve into the relationship between material cultures and historical narratives, using advanced technologies to uncover and interpret the stories embedded in traditional crafts. This project aims to understand how historical and cultural contexts shape modern culture, enriching contemporary design with deeper meaning and significance.

Crafting Futures Program Ideas

At Direct Create / Crafting Futures, we believe in the synergy between tradition and innovation. By harnessing AI, robotics, and other advanced technologies, we enhance traditional crafts and make them more relevant in today's world.

Developing ‘Smart’ Textiles

Combine traditional weaving techniques with modern environmental and sustainable technology to create smart textiles. These textiles can incorporate sensors to monitor environmental conditions or human health, merging the aesthetic and cultural richness of traditional fabrics with cutting-edge functionality.

Reshaping Urban Environments

Using traditional knowledge systems as guiding frameworks, we propose innovative urban design solutions that prioritize sustainability, community, and cultural continuity. By applying age-old wisdom to modern urban challenges, we create spaces that are both functional and harmonious with their cultural heritage.

Sustainable Architecture

Explore traditional design systems and material knowledge to create modern sustainable buildings. By integrating ancient construction techniques with contemporary sustainability practices, we develop architectural solutions that are both ecologically responsible and culturally resonant.

Cultural Economics

Investigate traditional arts and crafts from liberal arts and economics perspective, exploring the economic impact and cultural significance of these practices. By analyzing the role of traditional crafts in local and global economies, we provide students with insights into sustainable economic models and the cultural value of preserving traditional knowledge. This interdisciplinary approach fosters a deeper appreciation of the intersection between culture, economics, and societal development.
